Claudio Poleschi Arte Contemporanea is pleased to announce the personal exhibition by Pino Pinelli * in via Santa Giustina 21 and in the adjacent church of San Matteo, in Lucca. The exhibition, curated by Bruno Corà, will be inaugurated Saturday, October 27th, at 6:00 pm.

The artist will produce a monumental dissemination especially conceived for the large central walls of the deconsecrated church of San Matteo. Simultaneously, other works will be on display in the apse and in the gallery. From the beginning of the Seventies, the work of Pino Pinelli may be compared to a long process of reflection on the deep reasons for painting.

Since 1976, proceeding by subtraction, he eliminates the frame and reduces the canvas to its bare geometric and mono-chromatic simplicity, distancing himself from a conception of painting as image and as a sort of window on another world.

Thus shattering the traditional canvas, Pinelli then allows painting -- reduced to fragment and lump of color -- to return to being one with the walls and the surrounding space from which it was arbitrarily separated. The wall thus becomes a part of the work and the fragment, in turn, recomposes itself on the wall in an integral ensemble.

Pinelli's works, disseminated in the surrounding space, come to life through the direct involvement of the viewer in a sort of complete experience of the mind and the senses in the here and now of a reunited, re-conquered reality. For the exhibition, a catalogue will be published containing an introductory critical essay by Bruno Corà and bio-bibliographical notes on the artist.

* Pinelli, born in Catania in 1938, lives and works in Milan.
